This Italian Dump Salad or Italian Chopped Salad is super easy to make and is perfect for lunch or dinner! It pairs well with your favorite Italian meal or is delicious on its own as a full meal!
Why is it called a dump salad?
I call this a dump salad because it doesn’t require any cooking at all! You just chop the ingredients and DUMP them into a big bowl! That is what makes it a super easy recipe!
You can even customize the ingredients to whatever you have on hand! What are the ingredients in this salad?
I am going to list out my favorite ingredients to use, but you can totally customize this to your liking!
Romaine lettuce Cherry tomatoes Roasted red pepper Artichoke Hearts Cucumber Olives- I like to have a combination of kalamata olives, green olives and black olives :). I just try to get seedless ones so no one breaks a tooth during lunch! Hearts of Palm Pepperoni Salami Peppered Salami Proscuitto Capricola Red onion Parmesan Cheese Mozzarella Cheese Peppercini Olive oil Balsamic Vinegar or Red Wine Vinegar Italian Seasoning Salt Pepper You could also add: Garbanzo beans- I don't like them and they are higher in carbs so I genereally leave them out. Fresh basil or fresh herbs instead of the Italian Seasoning Grape tomatoes Zesty Italian Dressing- you can add some red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit! Green pepper Red Bell pepper Green onions mozzarella balls banana peppers You can also add gluten free croutons or gluten free pasta if you’d like! I make mine low carb or keto so I don’t add those but you totally could! Here's How to make this Perfect Side Dish or Main Course Salad!
Grab a large bowl.. You will need it to dump all of the ingredients into.
Wash and chop the lettuce. Chop all of the veggies and add them to the bowl. You can leave the olives whole if you desire. I like to chop everything into bite size pieces. Chop the Italian meats and add them to the bowl. Grate your cheese or add in the already grated cheese. Use a smaller bowl to make the homemade italian dressing for the salad. Put in the olive oil, vinegar and italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Whisk to combine. Pour over the salad and toss to coat all the ingredients. Serve and enjoy! Here's why this is one of our favorite salads:
You can make a big batch or a small batch depending on the amount of people you are serving.
The salad is perfect as the main course or the side dish. It's like a delicious Italian Sub but without all of the carbs...instead it's an italian Sub Salad! It's perfect for weeknight meals! It's a great way to get you protein, carbs and fats in! Plus you can make it low carb if you are eating keto! You can customize the salad ingredients based on whatever you have on hand. Every time I brign this salad to a potluck it gets a 5 star rating! You should make this for your next potluck!! You don't have to turn the oven on or cook anything! It's the best salad to pack for lunch because you can just add the dressing when you are ready to eat it. Check out this video on how easy it is to make this salad!
I also love that you can find most of these ingredients easily in the grocery stores! We made this salad once when vising family in a small town in Iowa! We were able to find all of the ingredients at their small town grocery store which was awesome! The whole family loved it! If you are serving it to adults or kids who aren't big on salads, you can always have them add some of the ingredients to pasta minus the lettuce or as a sandwich!
Here's the printable recipe!
I hope you love this recipe as much as I do! And you get a 5 star review whenever you make it!
As Always, Best Wishes for Gluten Free Dishes XO, Michelle
